WELCOME!
Empower House is Iowa’s only brain injury Clubhouse, with 3 service lines offered nowhere else in the state. Our programs are meant to help brain injury survivors thrive to reach their full potential.
work-ordered day
The daily activity of a Clubhouse is organized around a structured system known as the work-ordered day. This is a six hour period which parallels the business hours of the working community. The work-ordered day revolves around the operations of our organization and is pillared by three units: the kitchen unit, the business unit, and the maintenance unit. Members choose which unit they want to be a part of. Daily jobs include helping plan events, answering the phone, recording attendance, ordering groceries, cooking lunch, basic maintenance of our space, and much more.
Wellness and leisure programs
Empower House provides monthly social nights for survivors and their families. These programs are held either at Empower House or in the greater community. Examples of previous social programs include a painting class, bowling, family movie night, and a Euchre tournament.
Empower House also provides additional wellness and leisure services, including a weekly “power hour” with Rock Valley Physical Therapy, a monthly music group with Common Chord, and a quarterly Drums Alive program with Senior Star.
brain injury support services
Empower House strives to be the hub of brain injury resources in the Quad Cities community. We work with our members and their loved ones to ensure access to additional services, including having onsite neuroresource facilitation through the Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa. We host the Eastern Iowa Brain Injury Support Group onsite monthly. We have a monthly Aphasia Group in collaboration with a MercyOne Genesis Speech-Language Pathologist. Additionally, we run Brain Injury Coping Skills (BICS) group, Self-Advocacy for Independent Living (SAIL) group, and host Brain Injury Fundamentals Training for community members. We recognize that without a community of support and services, our members cannot be their best selves.
