Amerigroup Iowa Donates Laptops to Brain Injury Clubhouse for Virtual Learning and Remote Social Activities
Donations to provide Empower House with tools, resources and support services for Iowans with brain injury to reconnect into life, the community and workplace
DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 29, 2020) – Amerigroup Iowa has donated 4 computers to Empower House –QCA Brain Injury Clubhouse to increase access for Iowans with brain injury for virtual learning programs and remote social and emotional activities.
The computers will support Empower House and the local community with the proper tools and resources to promote independence and encourage virtual connections through social activities and programs which is critical to overall health, wellness and development. Connectivity is crucial for continuing education, returning to a sense of normalcy, getting or maintaining a job, and accessing benefits and services.

Empower House is a community that provides empowerment for a more purposeful life after brain injury. A Clubhouse is a place where people belong – a place where people with brain injuries come to be productive and enjoy contributing to a common cause. If people want to learn work skills and get a job in the community as well as feel a sense of belonging, Empower House can help.
“COVID-19 has been especially hard on some of the members of Empower House who rely on the activities, social programs and the sense of belonging that the Clubhouse gives them,” said Claire Motto Steil, Empower House Co-Founder. “The laptops will be used throughout the Clubhouse facility and will also help connect with members and run programming virtually during the pandemic. We are grateful for this donation from Amerigroup Iowa and for all their support for our members and community.”
According to the Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa, more than 100,000 Iowans are currently living with disabilities related to brain injuries and nearly 40,000 Iowans suffer a traumatic brain injury every year.

Empower House is a Brain Injury Clubhouse in the Quad Cities. The purpose of the Clubhouse is to provide a community of empowerment and a more purposeful life after brain injury. The Clubhouse is a place where people belong. Empower House provides an environment to learn work and life skills and get a job in the community as well as feel a sense of belonging and purpose. The daily activity of the Empower House is organized around a structured system known as the work-ordered day. This six-hour period, currently 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Tuesday and Thursdays resembling the business hours of the working community.
